I know that I primarily hit elementary, but today I am addressing a video put together by Michael Wesch in collaboration with 200 students at KState. While it does speak more toward higher ed, these “kids” didn’t start these habits in college. Many of our elementary, middle, and high school students have these same patterns of behavior. How much educating are the students getting within the classroom walls?
Our role as teacher is drastically changing. We are no longer the provider of the information. Can we really compete with Google?? Our role needs to change from the dispenser of the knowledge to more of a coach. Coaching the students on how to find the knowledge, process it, and how to take that knowledge and make something happen. Like it or not, the change has already happened for the kids, it’s the teachers who are going to be left behind!
